Solar Developer

The BayWa r.e. UK team focuses on wind project development, acquisition and construction, both in the UK and Ireland.  We are excellent listeners and offer a wide range of solutions, perfectly tailored to your specific requirements. We have been building our presence in the UK steadily since 2010, and to date have built over 160MW of onshore wind and 340MW of solar projects with 2GW under our operational management.  

This growth is only set to continue with +350MW onshore wind pipeline as well as actively exploring greenfield solar and battery storage developments across the UK and Ireland. As a result of this continued growth, we are looking to recruit a Solar Developer to support the project development team with acquisitions, business case development and solar project pipeline delivery.

Your Tasks

Project Development
  • Undertake preliminary PV and wind design layouts through specialist software (eg. pvDesign);
  • Engage with technical team on potential site layouts and initial yield analysis;
  • Communicate and engage with relevant DNOs and National Grid in relation to spare grid capacity and potential connection opportunities for identifying new sites;
  • Progress grid applications with in-house technical support;
  • Communicate and engage with landowners to agree land (heads/option/lease agreements);
  • Manage planning process and develop planning applications (screening, planning application, environmental statement);
  • Liaise with development partners, review projects and provide technical input to developments;
  • Utilise in house support, legal, financial, technical, to build upon sites identified and present more in-depth analysis of project opportunities;
  • Appoint and manage external technical advisors (including planning/environmental/grid);
  • Present findings and analysis at bi-weekly project development meetings;
  • Attend and grow network at workshops and industry event

  • Develop and maintain a database of constraints required for solar and onshore wind site finding investigations. Making sure the source of constraints are kept up to date and easily accessible;
  • Using various software packages to create topographic layers to aid in site finding analysis. Creating a database for ease of accessibility;
  • Create accurate and professional standard site identification maps and reports which can be implemented into internal project approval presentations;
  • Develop a template for identified project sites which clearly and concisely contains GIS site investigation results as well as project details including land, planning and grid connection availability; 
  • Support development team with detailed maps required for planning and construction, such as lease folio maps, habitat management plans, cable layouts, etc;
  • Develop industry knowledge in solar, wind & battery storage as well as ad-hoc analyses and research into UK and Ireland energy markets.

Required Experience
  • Two to three years’ experience working in a similar capacity within the energy or a relatable industry;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written (presentations, reports, documents) and spoken;
  • Excellent commercial insight and researching competencies for assessing new business models and key value drivers of projects;
  • Building strong, cooperative and productive relationships with the key teams involved in realising projects;
  • Maintaining knowledge management system/processes, such as being methodological in structuring work, file/folder organisation.
