About the role
The Senior Wind Resource Engineer will oversee the wind assessment activities for Wind onshore projects for BayWa r.e. in APAC, ensuring the most appropriate technical solutions for the WTG layout for the projects assigned. This position will work closely with our Engineering teams located in Thailand and across APAC, pushing collaboration and drive continuous improvement in our engineering processes, and providing mentoring and training to other Wind Resource Engineers in the team.
The position will be based in our office in Bangkok, Thailand.

About the role
The Senior Wind Resource Engineer will oversee the wind assessment activities for Wind onshore projects for BayWa r.e. in APAC, ensuring the most appropriate technical solutions for the WTG layout for the projects assigned. This position will work closely with our Engineering teams located in Thailand and across APAC, pushing collaboration and drive continuous improvement in our engineering processes, and providing mentoring and training to other Wind Resource Engineers in the team.
The position will be based in our office in Bangkok, Thailand.
What You Will Do
- Design and implementation of wind resource measurement campaigns.
- To collaborate, as a senior technical specialist in your field, within the engineering teams assigned, across projects in APAC region.
- Establish the most appropriate technical solutions for the WTG layout design of the projects assigned, working closely and in coordination with the Project Engineer.
- Managing GIS and overseeing surveying activities to maintain a detailed and accurate data base of land use boundaries and exclusions.
- Creation and optimization of WTG layouts, both indicative and detailed, tailored to suit the stage of the development.
- To provide training and mentoring of other Wind Resource Engineers in the team.
- Producing energy yield estimates, including assessments to guide investment decisions (i.e.: energy losses, uncertainties).
- Manage technical due diligence to support M&A activities.
- Preparing project documentation for procurement programs, PPA applications and financial close.
- Site visits in APAC to confirm technical assumptions and gather data.
- Ensuring project compliance with local regulations.
- Managing third party contractors and consultants when required.
- Involvement in public hearings and environmental and social assessment activities where necessary.
- Maintaining the overall project schedule through ensuring timely deliverables within budget.
- Reporting progress to management and tracking key risks/issues. Maintaining a project technical execution plan.
- Able to travel upcountry and outside Thailand for project related works and training/workshops.
- Closely collaboration with APAC Engineering team, in coordination with the Head of Engineering APAC (located in Bangkok), to secure a successful implementation of best practices, procedures and regional BayWa r.e. standards, and to achieve the regional KPIs and Roadmaps.
What You Bring
- Engineering graduate with at least a bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering/scientific fields from an accredited and reputable University. Master’s degree is an advantage.
- 8 years of relevant work experience as a minimum.
- Previous experience in a similar role essential (On-Shore Wind); experience in Off-Shore will be an advantage.
- Experience in implementing and managing onshore wind measurement campaigns is required.
- Experience managing wind resource engineers.
- Attention to detail is a must, able to demonstrate sound engineering judgement.
- Excellent English communication skills in both oral and written English is mandatory.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal and external stakeholders.
- Asian language skills are an advantage.
- Proficiency in CAD and/or GIS design tools is required.
- Proficiency in Windfarmer / Windpro / Openwind or similar industry standard design tools is required.
- Experience in programming with Matlab, Python or C++, linear modelization and computational fluid dynamics is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal, prioritizing, and time management skills.
