Our experienced team is engaging in site acquisition, land survey, development, acquiring permits, communication with authorities and communities, EPC and O&M.

Baywa r.e. offers a comprehensive range of services form greenfield development, turnkey construction, to financing options and the operations of stand-alone or hybrid battery storage systems. Thanks to our global expertise, our local teams can respond to the needs and requirements of our clients. Due to the fast-growing large-scale storage system market, we are looking for you to join our team in Tokyo with immediate effect as Project Developer Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Japan.

Due to the fast-growing large-scale storage system market, we are looking for you to join our team in Tokyo with immediate effect as Project Developer Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Japan.
What You Will Do
- Site origination activities to identify new BESS sites in Japan.
- Establish connections with landowners and real estate agencies to negotiate land acquisition (lease or purchase) agreements.
- Lead feasibility assessments, financial modelling, and technical due diligence to examine and evaluate BESS projects throughout the full development process.
- Support business case development and pipeline prioritization activities for the portfolio of BESS projects in Japan.
- Secure all environmental, interconnection and other regulatory approvals necessary to progress projects to the execution phase.
- Build strong relationships with consultants for development activities while managing them to agreed contract specifications and budget.
- Coordinate grid connection enquiries and applications in close collaboration with our grid connection experts.
- Support, coordinate and manage as required all internal resources across legal, commercial, financing, engineering, procurement, grid and project management throughout the full development process to deliver projects to execution.
- Stay abreast of Japanese energy regulations, incentives, and policies related to BESS.
- Represent the company to project stakeholders and coordinate stakeholder engagement events as required for projects.
- Be a highly engaged and effective team member by developing working relationships across BayWa r.e.
- Technical and economical responsibility of the assigned projects during their development phase.
- After a thorough induction at our Tokyo office, you will carry out your tasks locally in the regions.
What You Bring
- Successfully completed degree in a technical or planning subject (geography, renewable energies, engineering or similar).
- 3+ years of professional experience in the development and realization of primarily battery storage projects, ground-mounted photovoltaic systems or wind farms and in the acquisition of project areas.
- Experience in the planning and approval of storage or/and renewable energy projects, preferably with experience in environmental impact assessments and/or interconnection process with utilities.
- A resilient network and very good local knowledge in the regions.
- Ideally have a basic technical understanding of battery storage systems.
- High degree of personal responsibility, entrepreneurial spirit, and flexibility.
- Good communication skills to manage internal and external stakeholders.
- Good negotiation skills, coupled with a high level of sensitivity for different mentalities and customs in an international business environment.
- Business fluent in written and spoken Japanese and English.
