About the role

BayWa r.e. Australia is looking for a Lead/Senior Grid Connections Engineer to play a key role supporting the development, and construction of onshore wind, solar  and BESS projects across the NEM, with potential advancement to the role of Principal Engineer.

The Role will requires technical excellence with management responsibilities of the project scope and schedule. The successful candidate must have exceptional communication skills and be able to build and foster relationships with industry leaders, NSPs, AEMO, contractors, suppliers and consultants. Established industry relationships will be looked at favourably. This role will ideally be based in Melbourne. 

What You Will Do

·       Be responsible for scope, program, budget and commercial management for grid connections of specific project(s)
·       Coordinate with consultants, internal development. engineering and finance teams, NSPs, OEMs and suppliers. to meet project commercial and technical targets.
·       Negotiate generator performance standards for BayWa projects which are aligned with BayWa commercial objectives.
·       Support in development of internal capabilities and processes, and mentor peers in the team
·       Assess early stage projects, and identify risks and opportunities relating to the grid connection
·       Provide input and suggestions to management and development team for internal decision points and commercial discussions, including EPC and HV works contracts.
·       Develop and maintain relationships with industry, NSPs and AEMO
·       Develop and manage cost estimations for grid connection works
·       Keep abreast of industry publications relating to the transmission network, grid connections and renewable industry in general.
·       Contribute to high level and preliminary design of Balance of Plant and HV assets

What You Bring

·       Ideally more than 5 years of experience in grid connection of large utility scale projects in the NEM from            R0 stage through to operations.
·       A strong understanding of power system and electrical engineering concepts, especially relating to the              transmission network
·       Extensive experience in running grid connection studies on power system models such as PSCAD,                  PSS/E, Powerfactory, etc.
·       Experience in developing python scripts to automate grid studies and plotting of data, with different                   power software.
·       Previous experience in electrical design preferred.
·       Understanding of NEM operations, regulatory requirements and a firm grasp of the NER chapter 5.
·       Ability to prioritise multiple project workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
