The role

We have a clear mission to grow our Australian business focussing on utility-scale onshore wind, solar and storage.  To support this, we are recruiting for a dynamic Head of Commercial to lead procurement, contracting and construction.
 
Location for this role is flexible. However you will need to spend time collaborating with our teams in Tasmania, Victoria, NSW and QLD.
 
This senior role reports to the Managing Director and manages the Construction team.  You will lead the commercial management of development and construction activities including:
  • Driving innovation and excellence
  • Estimating and commercial overview of development and construction activities
  • Leading or supporting the negotiation of landowner agreements to ensure land access within an acceptable commercial framework
  • Establishing robust contractual and risk management frameworks for project delivery.  Ensuring appropriate risk management tools and reporting systems are implemented and project risks are identified, analysed and appropriately managed throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ensuring internal stakeholders understand project risks and are kept informed through use of effective ‘early warning’ and exception reporting systems
  • Preparation and negotiation of all project related contract documentation
  • Maximising shareholder value from development opportunities by managing them from DA approval through to financial close and on to handover to operations including running procurement processes and competitive tendering
  • Delivery of a portfolio of tightly controlled, successful construction projects to achieve the company’s growth strategy and maximise shareholder value
  • Management and resolution of contractual disputes in a professional and commercially responsible manner
  • Liaising with OEM’s to stay up to date with the latest technological developments and make recommendations as to their applicability and potential value
  • Managing external legal support to deliver agreed outcomes
  • Integrating and contributing to the BayWa r.e. legal and technical teams in Australia and internationally
  • Management and coaching of the Construction team to deliver high performance outcomes, including project delivery on time and to budget
  • Adhering to company policies with a strong focus on the environment, and health and safety. 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a commercially astute problem solver with a passion for renewable energy and a desire to share their knowledge
  • Have a minimum 15 years’ experience managing the financial close and delivery of large complex wind and infrastructure projects including the negotiation of contracts for the procurement of equipment, services and grid connection in Australia.
  • Have a deep, broad, and current understanding of renewable energy, such that they can lead estimating, due diligence, procurement, acquisition and contract negotiation
  • Be an experienced manager of high performance teams who naturally uses a coaching leadership style.  You will lead with enthusiasm, compassion, and be a lifelong learner
  • Min honours degree in Engineering, Construction or Law
  • Willing to travel occasionally
