We are currently recruiting for a Community Engagement Manager to develop and maintain positive, lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with host communities. You will lead engagement and communications activities across our business’s growing renewable energy portfolio and develop bespoke engagement strategies applicable for each individual project.  The successful candidate will manage the community engagement process from project inception, project-construction, and work closely with our global communications team.  The location for this role is flexible with a preference for our Brisbane or Sydney hub

Reporting to the Senior Communications Advisor you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the project community engagement process from an early stage to establish strong relationships with stakeholders, and maintain this throughout a project life cycle.
  • Lead project-level community engagement, communications, and social investment activities in a trustworthy, respectful and effective way
  • Work collaboratively to understand key community, stakeholder and project neighbour concerns and assist in the development of solutions and negotiation of agreements
  • Develop engaging content, keeping community and stakeholders up to date
  • Managing and developing detailed and high-quality project communication and engagement plans and materials. Ensuring these plans are executed in line with both contractual and community commitments.
  • Providing support to lead and co-develop project specific community investment plans (coordination of internal and external parties)
  • Interfacing with internal business units to ensure alignment across external messaging to stakeholders, landowners and the community in general
  • Provide strategic advice on project issues to Project Leaders and Managing Director
  • Developing and managing relationships with key Federal, State and Local government agencies and departments.
  • Ensure BayWa’s community engagement plans and procedures are consistent with state requirement and are reflective of best practice guidelines.
  • Monitoring and reviewing BayWa’s social risks to ensure our social license to operate is maintained, and where possible, promoted as our point of difference
  • Work with Senior Communications Advisor to coordinate the drafting and release of all community related media statements, develop media opportunities and meet with key media representatives to discuss projects.
  • Be positioned as BayWa’s primary Community and Stakeholder spokesperson
  • Proactively managing opportunities, issues, and risks across a range of projects in order to build understanding and support for projects whilst maintaining relationships with government agencies, stakeholder groups, local councils and the community.
  • Lead and participate in the stakeholder analysis (i.e., Social Impact Assessment) for sites in development, prospecting, due diligence and delivery phases.
  • Oversee and manage the development of relevant community facing material such as newsletters, information bulletins, advertisements and websites.
  • Lead and develop an Indigenous Community Engagement Framework that can be rolled out across BayWa’s projects.
  • Be across the relevant guidelines associated with community engagement for wind farms.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum of 10 of experience in community relations and community consultation work. (Previous experience working in the resources and energy sectors in Australia is also desirable).
  • Tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as arts, communication, public relations or relevant experience.
  • Proven team leadership skills and experience
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with a professional approach to community relations.
  • Knowledge of principles for effective public participation, stakeholder relations and community engagement.
  • Experienced in front line community relations, with a hands-on approach to engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and a track record in resolving issues
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in preparing stakeholder analyses, consultation plans, communications materials and managing community relationships and expectations.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in developing and delivering community relations programs and community benefits sharing programs
  • Understanding of regulatory planning and environmental processes in relation to infrastructure projects.
  • Experience negotiating with landowners and developing landowner agreements.
  • Experience in delivering outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Current Victorian or equivalent Australian state driver’s license.
  • A demonstrated understanding of regional and rural communities
  • Genuine and honest with an authentic ability to relate well to a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to unpack complex information and present to a variety of audiences in a way that is meaningful and engaging
